I am installing the shower/bathtub plumbing in my new master bath. The direction on the rough in specs for the tub and shower controls give an “optimal” dimension of 18 inches between the centerline of the tub spout and the centerline of the control handle. This seems to place the control handle high on the wall. Is this right? What are the standard dimensions for mounting the shower head, control handle and tub spout? Thanks.

More like 8". I put the spout 4" from the top of the tub ledge and the faucet 12" from the top of the tub ledge.
What brand is this faucet?
It's an American Standard Reliant +, single handle controlExperienced, but still dangerous!
so...sounds like it'd be at low waist height while standing up showering...but still reachable while sitting in the tub?
Which will it be used most for?
Fudge it that way.

I put the spout 4" above the tub flood rim and the control 36" from the floor. Makes it easy to reach whether giving a child a bath or an adult taking a shower. Shower head @ 78".

are you doing rough-ins for basketball players??? personally, i'd love to find one that's placed above my head...
surely you mean showerhead at 68" above floor...

My two cents......Spout 6" above the flood rim, Faucet 30" above the floor and shower arm 78" above the floor.
Got in the habit of 4" so it would come in the tile seam. Easier for the tile layer.

No really, 6'-6". The head will hang down close to 6".
