Is that the right term?
The stone foundation of our 100+ year old house is sealed for only the upper three feet with a whiteish colored cement. I would like to do the rest of it. Is this some mixture of lime and mortar? What was the purpose and should I use the same stuff?

pointing refers to sealing the joints only, with a stiff mortar..
completely covering the foundation with a stucco or mortar , or cement finish would be parging

go to a mason's supply , and tell them you want a white mortar or a white cement... break out a sample to take with you...
