I am debating on whether to use T&G 1×4 fir for my porch floor or use 1×4 fir w/o T&G edge but with a 1/8″ space between boards. I plan on priming all sides prior to installation. The porch will have a roof with a healthy overhang of about 2 ft. and gutters will be installed. The location is NE Ohio near cleveland where we get a good deal of snow. Also, any comments/opinions on paint vs. stain on the floor and applied edging on the board ends vs. bullnose routing of board ends will be appreciated! The boards will be installed perpendicular to the house.

I used 1x4 T&G Kiln dried after treated(k.d.a.t.)which is a pressure treated yellow pine milled at tolerances close enough to use for flooring. it was good and straight for easy installation. Must be special ordered.
*I agree with Mitch. I used 1x4 T&G clear doug fir at a $1 per linear foot, and it worked great. My lumber yard had it in stock. I would stain. I would use minimum 3 coats. By something generic, and a simple color so in a pinch 5 years from now the stain and the color still can be ordered.
