Hello,
Wondering if anyone knows what the minimum front porch roof pitch should be for a house in coastal NH. Would it be different for metal versus shingle? House is a small symmetrical mid-century cape.
Any considerations if we’re also planning to add three small gable dormers to the front at a future date? Might be time to call an architect!

The lowest you can go with a shingle roof is about a 2.5/12, with double coverage of the roofing underlayment. This depends on the manufacturer, as well. I'm not sure about metal roofing. You can go a lot lower with membrane systems, say 1/2 in./12. If I were going to add dormers though, I'd be looking to steepen the roof pitch to minimize the risk of leaks at the wall/roof intersection.
