I have been looking to buy a TS/Stand for awhile- checked out various online reviews and discussions- decided on Makita 2703/Rousseau 2700XL w/outfeed. For about $180 more than the Dewalt, Bosch, or Ridgid saws alone, you get a superior fence and better/expandable table setup and just as much power. Although you don’t get a full sized miter slot, who would use it that often on saws like these? I think I could still put together a decent sled if need be (used carefully). The Makita-supplied fence is OK and adequate when you want to grab only the saw without the stand- good for a quick trip to a jobsite. The saw set up and adjusted easily and was fairly accurate, although I did discover a hump in the table, front to back, of about 1/16″. I wonder if they’re all like that- guess I’ll check another at the tool supply to shed some light on this aspect. Hey, what do you expect for $320? They even throw in a very beefy stand and a carbide 24T blade. Guess I’ll put another tool on the stand or turn it into a step bench. I have the saw already, but had to order the Rousseau from Western Tool Supply. WTS had what appeared to be a Rousseau stand and outfeed on display but was clearly labled Makita (priced identical to Rousseau). Looks like Makita has copied the stand, but it is narrower than the Rousseau and will not accept any of their add-ons. Any comments?

Somebody a while back mentioned that Makita stand and I couldn't figure out what they were talking about. I've had the 2703 and the Rousseau stand for a while and I just don't see how you could beat it. I don't miss my iron saw at all. As others have observed, the Rousseau is the key- if you got that you could put in any cheap little saw that would fit and have a good rig.
*I agree. We've been using a Makita/Rousseau assembly for quite a while, and like that stupid little battery bunny that I want to smash with a framing hammer, it just keeps going and going...To this point, the biggest problem I ran into was finding the 8 and change blades for the Makita...but Sears, of all places, actually has a pretty good selection in my area. We've put off buying a bigger "shop" saw time and again simply because we can quickly set up, and then accurately cut just about anything on this setup.
