I take pride in my tools, and I am quite anal about them. Well, last night I my friend returned my miter saw to me that he borrowed. When I got home I simply forgot the saw in the truck. This morning I wake up to the sound of pouring rain, all of my baby.
Do I let it dry out for a few days? Or is this a gonner? Anyone else have a “friend” who did this once?
Thanks.

Bring her in the house and let her sit a few days. She'll be fine.
If you have forced air heat, 24 hours on the register should do it.

I got caught in a sudden thundershower one day, scrambled to get everything undercover. I forgot the mitersaw. After a thorough soaking I remembered the darn thing and brought it in. I dried it off best I could, left it in utility room overnight, this room is warmer than the rest of the house. Next day it worked fine.Glad it was aluminum casting.

I looked at where the brushes are inserted and saw a little tarnish along the copper, other than that, the saw is either painted metal or aluminum, and so far no problem. Still letting it sit to dry out, should give it a test run tomorrow.
When I saw it in the truck I felt like I had left my dog out in the cold or something.
I did this once with my digital camera. When I found it, it had water sloshing in it, and even after 3 days inside, water was still between the LCD display cover and the LCD panel. There're neat sediment lines there still. But after about a week of drying, I recharged it and it works perfectly. Like I tell my wife who always has to have an umbrella with her when it gets cloudy, a little rain isn't gonna hurt anything.
One night my wife and I were cuddling on the couch (before the kids) and I heard a distinctive THUMP BANG, THUMP BANG in the dryer. Some how I knew that it was my cell phone. I didn't have to wait for the phone to dry as the dryer did its job admirably. It turned right on! Now all I buy is Samsung.
Mabey you should put the saw in the dryer.

Waitaminnit !
Yer were cuddling on the couch, and you actually were able to hear a thump bang thump bang somewhere else ?
I dunno how to tell you this, but boy are you doing something wrong...

I, too, have sinned (only on occasion).
I usually take item in question somewhat apart (you ain't scared of that are you), and give a good spray of aresol electronics cleaner -- to push out/displace the water .. the cleaner is mostly alcohol and evaps right off. Done this to cellphone, pagers, camera, etc. No failures...most electronics may survive a dunk, it's a few weeks or months later when the slight corrosion started finally takes it's toll.
I used a DW 12 volt drill underwater..( the bag it was in leaked , big time) putting in a septic sys. for a house boat..it lasted and kept on going for the whole job..we only had two batts. and no way to recharge them..I dunno why it did not die..

My three month old digital fancy coffee maker went on the fritz yesterday. I just gave it to my son to smash in the back yard. He had fun!Coming to you from beautiful Richmond, Va.
Due to a snafu, I found myself needing to cut a groove in the mortar of a tennis court bluestone patio to bury a speaker wire in..
As it was my bosses fault that a conduit didn't get put UNDER the patio, it was his saw I borrowed. With a diamond blade it was pretty effective, but the dust was out of control after 6" of cutting.
So my assistant hosed it down with a good flow of water from the garden hose. Needless to say, after 40 or so feet of cutting, the water was everywhere, and the saw was a mess!
I wonder how that saw is these days???? Hmmmmm???Jake Gulick

One of my subs had a small Delta mitersaw he kept mounted on a work table he built on the basket of a boom lift. For the first month or so, he covered it with a garbage bag at night. After he forgot once and it rained on it, he never covered it again. Was still working fine after several months until someone used a ladder and climbed up in the bucket one night and stole it.
You guys are making me feel better. The saw is fine. This reminds me of when I cut my cord on my PC circ. saw. Took it to the local repair place guy picks up the saw, says "welcome to the club man, it's a big one". I laughed pretty good when he said that.
