A friend of mine new foundation is light-weight, precast concrete panels that bolt together and caulked at the seams and corners. These panels have 2″ of SM (XPS) insulation and are open on the inside with about 6″ of space for more(glass I presume)insualtion. The installer used no footers, just compacted crushed rock over clean sand. The outside of the panel is painted with a 20 year foundation sealant.
On top is going a log house kit (milled logs, not full logs). Any opinions on the ability of this foundation system to handle the weight of the log walls ?

What was the name of the supplier for the precast foundation? Search the archives. Precast foundations were discussed the week of July 26th. Use "Superior Walls" as your search string...
