I am replacing a 3/8" parquet floor with a Bruce 3/8" X 3" prefinished, engineered (maple, Dura-Luster urethane) floor. The sub-floor is 5/8" plywood. Two questions:
1. the parquet (glued down) is popping up, I am assuming from excess humidity in the basement. I've installed dehumidifiers and the average humidity in the basement is now ~50%. Any other precautions I can take? The new floor is a glue down, so I am not sure how to get a vapor barrier in.
2. After removing and scraping the subfloor, the surface will still be less than ideal. Any suggestions for subfloor prep?
I am not opposed to replacing the subfloor (with vapor barrier under it) but if I don't have to... my wife would be grateful.
