Well, this remodel just seems to go on and on. I was starting to rough-in the ductwork for my heat pump when the DW decides that we really need one more window (never mind that we just finished re-bricking the house). Looking at the photo, you’ll see some temporary steps. But the ultimate plan is to construct a nice deck and gazebo off the rear. With that in mind, my wife wants to add another window to the right of the patio doors, about 4-5 feet from the corner. The window would be the same size as the one on the far left (3-0/3-2).
Anyway, I’ve still got sand, brick, etc. to do this and I’m confident that I can create the rough opening, though not looking forward to it. The interior is still in the rough stage, so the plan is to frame the RO from within and then use the corners of the opening to drill reference holes to the outside of the brick veneer, followed by some chalk lines and careful cutting with a masonry blade. Of course, I’ll have to bring the mason back to patch things up after the window goes in.
Have you guys ever tackled a window installation like this? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for all replies.

That's a no brainer for the mason, though he may be about as thrilled as you are. Toughest part I believe is getting a lintel in at the top of the opening.
I'm sure you wife will make it worth your while ; )

Fortunately, the overhang begins immediately above the window, so no lintels were needed here.New knowledge is priceless.

Say no and sleep on the couch. The house looks good. Nice shapshot!
Best to you and yours, Chris.

"Is divorce an option?"
Moments like these push a marriage to its limits...even a 32 year marriage like mine. I suggested that window before bricking and cautioned my wife that she wouldn't have any view of the backyard from the kitchen without it. Well, she has since forgiven me for being right...
... but warned me not to ever let it happen again.

Well, at least since your brick is new you can match the brick and mortar exactly.
Instead of a deck, how about a patio? Decks require constant maintenance, and eventually look shappy. The average deck is torn off after nine years. A patio of concrete or any number of paving materials will be classier and will last and last.

Most decks don't get as much use as we'd all like but the one on our house does get lots of use as long as the weather is nice because it's covered with a metal roof. It has aluminum posts and C-section beams supporting everything. It's 16' deep & 32 wide, all open span. There's a removeable beam in the center if there's ever a need for worries about snow loads.
Check with in the brick dimension to ? Aline with the joint of every other one on the vertical so you don't have a bunch of 1/4" slivers of brick. Get close from inside and then adjust from the outside in.
i'd take a picture of the backyard and put it where she wants a window
LOL! Great idea. And inside that picture, I'll paste a picture of the truck I want sitting out there.New knowledge is priceless.

Skip the window.
You'll need a roof over that patio. A large enough patio so that you can make a room addition later if you want. A proper roof over that patio to blend in with the existing.
That blank wall space would look good with a HUGE flat screen TV.
