I will be building a house near Daytona Beach next year and wonder if propane is a viable alternative to electric.

Natural gas is preferable to propane, and probably available there. But if not, I think the propane would possibly be better than electric. The costs of both per therm vary, and sometimes propane may not provide a large advantage over electric.
