i'd use ice shield where ever i can
*Use the flexible type of j-channel, run a bead of urethane caulk behind it between it and the window flange, and then flash with the black sticky tape (or ice and water shield) over the back flange of the j-channel. And keep in mind- Water runs downhill and will find it's way into any hole or crevice. And more importantly- There is no way to keep water from getting behind vinyl siding.
*You might want to check with your local sheet metal fabricator, they can custom make a one piece that will fit exactly and won't leak.
*rayyyyyy,I second and third the above motions by Kevin and Mark...Graces Ice and Water shield is king here.near the sticky stuff that stop the h2o stream,aj
