Simple. While the patch (if it was a patch) used bricks of a different composition than the rest of the walk. So when wet they appear darker.
The fix would be to find bricks matching the bulk of the walk and replace those the appear darker when wet.
You know it's not easy if the original walkway is 10-20 years old.
Exactly. Even if sourcing replacement bricks from the same producer. Raw materials vary over time resulting in variations in appearance.
