1. Is a 16 guage finish nailer suitable for window and door trim?
2. Re compressors, is 2.7cfm at 90 adequate for small projects, such as window and door trim and siding with single gun? or should I stay with something in the 4 cfm range?

Kevin, I use a 15ga. angle nailer (Senco DA type) for window and door trim. A greater variety of nails are available. A 1 hp pancake-type compressor with a 4 gallon tank will do nicely.
*GWC - what's "DA type"? - yb
*Kevin: It will work great for window trim, crown moldings, and some aspects of cabinet construction. Siding could be sketchy. Those brads don't have much of a head on them nor much sheer strength. 2.7 cfm is plenty, trim work is not done at production framing rates. 90 psi is more than you'll usually need. Get an A/C with a regulator and pressure gauge or add one so you can adjust for brad length and wood hardness. -David
*YB, You sure got a lot of questions! DA fits in the SFN40, UA fits in the older models
*Bucksnort - that's what happens when you work alone years on end, only to discover that there are hundreds of pros talking your language on that computer thingie! It's amazing how much a guy can pick up! - yb
*I have been using the Senco SFN 40 for about three or four years now. It runs great. Plenty of power even at the lowest pressures. I had a bostitch, but returned it and bought a senco. Of all my guns, it is my favorite.Eric
