Does anyone know why you cannot buy a floor mount outlet that has two plugs without going to an electrical supply house? Is there a safety reason why the big boxes and local hardware stores only sell the brass single plug? As always, your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hey Nebraska:
Got mine at Menards (big box). Made by Carlon, adjustable floor box kit. Duplex with safety covers and everything. A little pricey at $24.97, but includes everything. http://www.lamsson-sessions.com.
Hope this helps, nailer01
FWIW, I used a professional grade (should hold up a bit better) regular outlet for the floor. Using an extension cord with a flat head minimizes the plug height (ours is under a couch).

WireMold, the same company that makes Plug Mold, Wire Mold, etc, has multi-use floor mounted boxes and the cover can be closed with the wires attached. I have seen them on their website.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
I had about 9 of these in our floors, and I looked high and low for duplex units. The only thing I could find were commercial ones (from Hubbel I think) that are designed to go in concrete. It was going to cost $100 per box plus about another $100 for the brass cover. So I said forget it and I just put in the simplex units from Leviton. About $22 each at Home Despot. (they were about $5 cheaper than Blowes for some reason).
I have no idea why they are simplex units. Maybe it makes the cover much simpler. Given the depth of the boxes, I wouldn't think that volumn is a problem.
