I’m looking for some help/advice on parging a large block wall. I was wondering how thick you can build up the cement grout parging. What I have is a wall of split-faced CM that is in relatively good condition but is way too rough and jagged for the client. They want to parge over it. Make it flat and then do either a stucco or EIFS over it. How thick can you go with the parging? Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

Parging gets too heavy for it's own strength after about a 1/4".
If stucco is the plan, skip the parging and secure wire lath to the wall and stucco.
Depending on your climate, it is usually better not to expect too many disparate materials to count on each other structurally. Thermal and moisture fluctuation can cause real headaches.
