Anyone have information on a radiant heating system which involves wood floor tiles(with slots for water pipes)that are applied directly onto the
existing floor surface, rather than from below the joists? Thanks in advance,

Check out Stadler's Climate Panel System at (www.radiant-floorheating.com). Wirsbo just sent me some info on a similiar system they now sell called the "Quick Track System". It is a system of slotted wood panels with built in aluminum fins for above the subfloor installation. It uses 5/16" PEX (smaller than normal tubing - ? if this is a disadvantage). It is made more for retrofit applications where concrete or gypcrete is not practical although there are those that believe it is a good system for new construction also. The advantage is that it has a faster responce time (less flywheel effect with varying outside temps). I suspect it also has better thermal conduction than an under the subfloor installation. I was less enthused when I saw the price. It is almost the same price as gypcrete.
