I AM BUILDING A TWO STORY STEEL FRAMED HOUSE IN BIRMINGHAM AL. I AM LOOKING AT USING 7/16 OSB THEN 7/8 HAT ON 3 5/8 STUD WITH A 7/8 HAT ON THE INSIDE FOR THE SHEETROCK. I AM USING THE HATS FOR A THERMIAL BREAK. I HAVE LOOKED AT ROCKWOOL BATS FOR INSULATION IN THE 3 5/8 STUD AREA. THE USE OF A RRB LOOKED LIKE A GOOD IDEA. BUT I AM CONCERENED ABOUT ALL THE VDR PROBLEMS . ARE ANY NEW PRODUCTS SAFE TO USE?

GG,
You sound like you are addressing the few concerns I have with steal....I know of no not what else advice to give other than to say that if you do what you say you are going to do, you are improving greatly above the standards of past.

what about the osb with the foil allied to one side? is this stuf any good? It sounded like it might be easier to put up than a seperate material. Also what about the vapor barrier, where should it be in the south (atlanta). is a house wrap a vapor barrier?

My votes as per Atlanta... taped seams and foil backed osb..yes.....and house wrap is made to let vapor through not liquid water.

Pullin' 'em in from AEC. eh !
You guys need to read the ventilation and insulation
strings of posts. Ignore the personalities and
look for the nuggets of explanation.
