Raised patio
sorry...I’ll explain. Location is Jekyll island Ga. the island is hard packed sand from river runoff. The project is a raised patio.
wall height is about 24”. We pour footers, etc on the hard pack but not sure if the smaller footprint of a block wall will have a tendency to shift. At other locations I always build on a stone fill base...never on sand.
so....you think I should over excavateband compact some rock....or just build on the sand base.
Depends on the nature of the sand, and the subterrainian water flow. Some sand is remarkably stable, some sand ain't.
The stone base is there for drainage not bearing capacity. If your slab is reinforced you wont need to worry much about capaccity.
Yes, but not a lot. 6 inches of gravel will do the job on hard packed river sand. If the sand is soft yolu'llneed more depth and width.
