Andrew,
If I wasn’t doing something similar, I’d get going about how
crazy it is to tear out roofing sections this time of year
and not expect it to be cold and wet. I’m only doing it on
an empty part of a barn…

I figured I'd start a new thread where everybody can rant about who is dumber than who, which breaktimer is superior, and the like.
Feel free to fill this thread with everything that prevents the free exchange of ideas. I personally think breaktime is a great place to learn something and to spend some time with my peers. Lately, the vicious attacks have really interfered with this.
I was the first to respond to Gabbys Cant we all just get along thread saying that life was tough, wear a helmet. I really dont mind attacks if they are warranted, intelligent, swift, and few. Occasionally, its okay to correct someone who was in error or even to make someone stand by what they post.
Its not constructive to badger and seek out fights. If you must do it, dont fill the other useful threads with this junk. I appreciated Joe starting a new thread to do this in earlier but its back on the other real threads again. Please find another place to fight. If you choose to do it here, use this space so that the rest of breaktime can be usefull.
-Ryan
*Ryan,I must agree......It seems as though the "Tavern" has made it's way into breaktime. It seems to be that people don't know what belongs where. There used to be a lot more qualified building questions here. Let's not let this site turn into a joke. The jokes and fun belong in the "Tavern" section.Ed. Williams
*I agree with Ed. Post a different solution here, but take someone to task in the tavern. Keep the bickering and bitching where it belongs. I have seen wrong answers given gere but they are usually corrected tenfold.Rick Tuk
*Ryan, part of the beauty of this place is that on one thread, the Tavern, we can beat the crap out of each other while on another, here for example, we can get back to business. It's not unlike the job, where we do what we have to do even though personalities can sometimes clash. Just because one fellow didn't get the idea with his "no attitudes" post, doesn't mean we have to keep this thing going. Here we talk building. Take your beef to the Tavern and fight it out like real men and women.SHG
*Yeah, well, the problem as I see it is that some folks don't respect the fact that there can be more than one valid opinion or approach. Some folks think they have the ONLY solution and that if you disagree you are a "jerk", or stupid. The posters here are no different than any other slice of society that way. The thing I try to remember when these folks start name callin' and belittlin' others is that it's THEIR character that's showin', not the folk's they are attackin'. The frustrating part to all this, is that if you have to point this out to someone, it's over their head in the first place and they won't understand what you're sayin'.Ryan, Rick, Ed., you guys are great assets to this site and have given me much food for thought and more than a few chuckles at the same time. "Don't let the bastards wear you down." Glad to share opinions and hours with you guys, any day. - jb
*Did you guys see where Gabe slipped one in over on the insulation section?
*SHG, I assume the fellow you are refering to is me. I did "get the idea". I put the "no attitudes" post up because I was new to breaktime and was caught off gard when I sensed "attitude" directed at me when all I needed was good advice. At the time I didn't even know about the "Tavern" so I put the post on this thread.Gaby
*What's this all about? Fill me in, guys.Hey Jim, brrrr, it makes for a chilly house with half the roof missing. And I've discovered that when you have a hole in the roof and it rains, water will come in.Thank goodness for the stunning fall weather we are having on the East Coast.
*Andrew,If you're asking about lonecat's comment, the post was one of three by Gabe on Nov. 24. This particular post is a response to FredL.Rich Beckman
*I was pretending to be naïve. But thanks, I couldn't find the lonecat ref either.
*mate, thats better than having a roof, and then still having water coming in!!

*Misery loves company. It was pretty sad ... inbetween thunderbursts I was squirting poly foam into the cracks around the styrofoam I had jammed in the hole & hoping it would set quick. We did fine, and the water fell straight through to the basement. The weather in D.C. is ideal for this work. I don't know what i did to deserve this. Sunny, 60's.As for timing, well you gotta do what you gotta do. The work is going fast.
