I’ve long admired the workmanship in Fine Homebuilding and thought you folks would be the ideal source for information regarding what would be
a reasonable, “ball-park range” cost for a simple deck of 300 square feet.
This would be in north Connecticut.
The ledger is on the house already and piers are poured.
Obviously, I’m not expecting job-quote precision. Just an idea what some prices are.
Thanks very much in advance.

Look to get a price for a basic deck at around $14 per sq. ft materials and labor. With a discount for work already completed .
*OK Len C-first of all there is no such thing as a reasonable price for a deck, anymore than there is a reasonable price for Gasoline.$15-$30 a foot depending on elevation then add for stairs,railing,benches,arbors,lights,-Kinda like building an outdoor house.Bob :-)
*Right. That's what I figured, so that's why I'm keeping it (as I stated) basic, simple, straight forward. I could add embellishments as time goes by but for now it's just 25X12 with a rail and 3 steps.
*Ron, thank you for the tip on work already completed!
*people around me would pay as little as $1500 to finish your deck...I have never done a PT deck for more than ten a foot including rails and stairs and footers and all...I do high end decks for materials times 2.5 to 3...Pro Deck gets a nice buck...Gonna have ta go to a Pro Deck Sales seminar...His decks are high end...and purty...too.near the tennis courts...aj
*what's the material used?hardwood like teak, ipe or mahogany can triple the labor if finished nicely.
*Attaching the ledger and pouring the piers are maybe 20% to 25% of the work on a basic deck, so take an average price of $15-$20/sf for a basic PT deck, by 300 sf = $4500-$6000, by .75 or .80 = between $3400 and $4800. If you think piers and ledger are more work, use a different multiplier.Mike
