Hi everyone,
During my family room remodel I installed eight Halo 6 inch h7ict fixtures. Now that I am finishing up I was trying to pick out a trim for them. Just a nice baffle.
I don’t like the plastic baffles Halo has, So I head down to my electical and lighting supplier. They have a nice aluminum white baffle made by Capri lighting. It is just what I want or so I think. The sales lady says well, we will let you borrow one and try it for a day or so. I say great so I come home and install it.
My first question is how hot is too hot? The thermal switch isn’t cutting the light on and off, but I got curious, I checked with my digital thermometer and the flange against the ceiling is running about 140 degrees F. At present I am running a frosted 60 watt a19 bulb in the fixture. My second question is if the temperature is too high can I bring it down by using a 60 watt br30 bulb? I was hoping to use a19 60 w due to their inexpensiveness and easier availability, less hassle for my parents to change and stock.
Or is it fine and am I just over thinking things. Oh the fixtures are on dimmers. The 140 degrees I measured was at max. brightness.

Many can lights aren't speced for A bulbs except for 40 watts with a shower trim.
Look at the label on the insdie.
In many causes they are also speced by the trim and you are using an unlisted combination.
Try it with an R or BR bulb and see what ahppens.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Thanks for the info Bill. I was kind of hoping someone might have some info on what would be an acceptable temp. for metal trims on drywall.
