Recommendation for Joist-mounted LED Lighting in Crawlspace
Good Sunday. Hope you’re doing ok.
I’m converting my vented crawlspace to an unvented, conditioned crawlspace. I was hoping to get your recommendation on light fixtures to mount on the joists. Was thinking LED for efficiency, but wasn’t sure if I should look for a particular design/configuration to deal with the low clearance and potential for humidity until I get the dehumidifier in there. The crawlspace has an average clearance of 2-3 ft and is 31 x 29 ft with an I beam run down the center of the long dimension set on two piers. I’m thinking maybe 6 lights… three on each side of the I beam, with the whole set being switched just inside the crawlspace access portal.
Crawlspace will be dehumidified and supplied with hvac from the main trunk, but that’ll probably be the last step in the conversion, so the lights might be in there with humidity for a few weeks or a month.
Thanks for your thoughts.

If looks do not matter you could use the 5" or 6" flat fixtures that fit in a J box and are rated for damp locations. The big box stores have them.
Thank you,

I used to tinker with LED light strips. $1.50 for 5m(16.4ft) on Amazon. Price might have changed, but if you want cheap, low clearance lighting, that is also flexible, disposable, and fits in joist bays or directly to the bottom of the joists then there you go. You'll need an available 12v DC power source. Probably 3 if you do 6 strips. They also have cheap wifi/Bluetooth remotes so you don't have to climb down just to flip the switch. Probably, $10 bucks for that. Basically, a prime account, proper wiring of 120vac and 12vdc, and about $30-$40 bucks will brighten your day.
It'll be a bit of work putting in the strips. But they used to come with peel and stick adhesive backing so just make sure before you buy.
Hope that helps!
Thanks!
