Our siding is 27 years old and faded, worn out, cracked, wasn’t installed very well in the first place, etc. Underneath is board and batten in good shape, so I’m starting to remove the vinyl. Seems like a terrible thing to fill the landfill with. Anyone have information or experience with any alternatives? (We do have county recycling here but they don’t take vinyl siding; just soda bottles and the like.)

Lisa,
Same in our area. I had a ton of offcuts and waste from our house and they won't take them in the curbside container and the county couldn't tell me what to do with them so in the trash they went. I believe in recycling and hated just to trash them but am not going to hold onto them for a year or so until someone tells me where and then have to drive 50 miles just to drop them off somewhere. Kind of like how some folks use 2 gallons of water to wash out a glass jar to recycle.

*Lisa-Perhaps roger gwinnup could take your siding for ya! After all, "For those who don't like reusing bldg materials, you won't like going home tonight." Cami
*roger's name is getting recycled now;>)
