Remodeling Show – Chicago

peteduffy | Posted in General Discussion on September 10, 2006 06:34am

Anybody plan on going to this?  Anybody been to it in the past?

Just curious as to what it will be like.  I’ve never been to this show.

And, can you buy things there, like at the Woodworking Shows?

Thanks in advance.

McCormick Place is right on the lake shore, just south of Soldier Field.  Always full of big conventions and shows.

I've been to the Design Engineering Show when I was in the corporate world.  Acres of displays for gearheads and manufacturing types.

Wear comfortable shoes. It's a BIG place!Pete Duffy, Handyman

    Pete,

I went in 2004. I went mainly for the business seminars, and would recommend them. I bought CD copies of some of the better seminars that I attended, and still listen to them.

The part I didn't expect, but turned into a highlight was the networking with other people there. Just striking up a conversation with someone before or after a seminar, or at the hotel, or at one of the gatherings after hours, or at lunch, or on the bus ride from the hotel.

Another thing is the speakers share freely about their businesses. Some of my own customer qualification questions were taken from a lead sheet one of the speakers (Paul Winans) used in his business.  Another speaker talked about his first year and a half in business where he managed to do $200K in volume and be $60K in debt when done, and what he did to reverse that. (Hey, at least I didn't do that bad!!!)

I haven't been to JLC Live, but another remodeler in our local HBA has been to both, and said the Remodelers show was much better.

I'm not planning on going this year, but will definately go back again when it is back in the midwest. (I think it alternates between east coast and midwest)

Yes you can buy things there, or ask to get the special show price if you order within the next few weeks.

Shredder's post reminded me that you can get just on the show floor, without the conference.  There were installation clinics on the show floor that were free. The comment from the other remodeler in my previous post was just about the classes and seminars, not about the show in general.

Hope that clears it up a little.
