Breaktime Experts
I’m installing a dishwasher on the opposite wall from my sink. I’ve gotten specific instructions from the plumber about the connecting the vent line and my electrician ran a long wire to directly underneath my proposed dishwasher location (semi-finished basment below). The plumber will be coming back to complete the hot water run to the dishwasher.
Anyway, maybe expert or two can help me out. First, is it okay not to have access (direct access, I suppose one could cut the drywall) to a Studor vent?
Second, can I just have the wire come up through the floor and then trim the extra when the dishwasher gets installed? Is there a better way? (Running it through the wall is not feasible, as the wall rests on the house’s main support beam).
Third, how tall would the 1 1/2 drain pipe need to be from the floor and will mounting it directly behind the dishwasher screw anything up?
I’m open to ideas and can take some pictures if needed.
Thanks!!

What is in the wall directly behind the DW? And what is on each side of it? I assume cabinets, what kind (shelves, drawers, other builtins)?
IIRC studor vents need to have access, not only for service, but also it needs to be in free air to work correctly. Where is the trap going to be? That also requires some space.
Now I don't know if code/practice in your area is to use plug and receptacle for a DW or if it is "hard wired", but the DW needs a disconnect. Typiclly it is in the adjcent sink cabinet, either the plug and receptacle or a disconnect switch for hardwired. You can use the CB as the disconnect if it can be locked out. You can get a hardware bracket for lockout for a few bucks for many brands of breakers.
Here are come options to look at. Install access panels on other side of the wall for both a receptacle and the studor valve.
Or put them in the back of the cabinets on the side. That might require some modification of the cabinets such as shorting some drawers or noticing a shelf.
Bill,Thanks for the response. I'll need to check for sure, but I believe the way it's done here is a direct wire installation for the dishwasher. In that case, is it okay to just come up directly from the floor into the the dishwasher? It might also be possible to install a cable in the wall next to the dishwasher (it's in a corner of the kitchen), but through floor would be easier. Space is at premium. How close to the wall should the cable come out? I'll go with the circuit breaker lockout, I think I've some of those brackets somewhere. As far as the Studor vent, there should be enough air as it will be a floor joist cavity, although I could easily install a false vent for accesibility. Thanks again! Your responses to my rambling posts have really helped with my house projects.Patrick
