As a supplement to my balustrade post…
Has anyone ever made a removable bannister? I’m doing it for both in my house as moving furniture in and out will be a lot easier. No, I take that back…will only be possible if they are removable.
I think I have a way to do it but of course am open to any experiences as once again this will be the first time I do this and at this point in the project, learning by doing is no longer fun. I need to get it right the first time. ๐

Mike, I think if you made your connections with standard rail bolts, you could simply remove your plugs ( I use 1 1/4")and loosen you bolts and take er down. I wouldn't glue the plugs.
*I used to work in a high rise (5 stories in central Indiana) and noticed that the steel handrails had been cut off and welded back on.turns out that the 9ft grand piano had been delivered to the third floor before the walls were put on, but that the 6ft grand was delivered to the fourth floor after the building was completed. They cut off all the handrails, "tumbled" the piano up the stairs (flipping it around each flight while hoisting straight up the stair shaft) then welded the whole kitnkaboodle back.Michael, I think Allen has answered your question. As usual, I have nothing pertinent to add.
*Allen, I was thinking along those lines. Thanks.kerr, Sure nothing to add but damn fine story!Mike
