I will be installing ceramic tile on concrete. The concrete has old black adhesive from the early 1960’s on it, does any one have advise on the best way to remove it?

As many others have mentioned, much of this old stuff is water soluble. I learned it once when I spilled a great big cup of hot coffee after I had been trying different solvents with little success. Try some different water and detergent mixes.
*b WBA At Your ServiceMapei makes a thinset that bonds to this adhesive. Check with your supplier. If you don't have one that knows, call my Batphone and I'll get the info for you.
