Hi folks,
I’ve got a question for you finishers out there. I need advice on how to remove fly spots from unfinished pine window trim. I will be using oil based stain on them. Also, what is the best finish to use on windows that will be subjected to a lot of sun, I’ve heard that polyurathane will yellow with time in the sun. Thanks a lot!

a bucket of soapy water and a scrub brush -
Use a pre conditioner on the wood before you stain and you'll be happier. Most any finish will yellow with time in the sun. Poly, lacquer, etc. Likely your best option for doing onesey twosey things like a window is spar varnish, since it has UV blockers in it, and is flexible enough to withstand a little more seasonal changes (which on a window can be daily changes in temperature). It too will yellow over time but will, in the long run, hold up substantially better than a straight poly. Seeing your name, you might like this- you can buy it in aerosol cans. Mask the glass and the wall and shoot it.
I kill me.
If you get enough flyspecs just use alcohol and french polish it.--- Oh no that is shellac. Great question. Seems like you've taken as long as I have to finish the interior woodwork.
Seriously, shellac is just a fancy form of one kind of bug doody from an Indian insect. It oozes this stuff from its pores as it feeds. People collect it then it is refined.
Ping back when you try out the soapy water. Hopefully it is enough.
