Replacement windows for a 1920’s Spanish
We are planning to replace the windows in our 1920’s vintage Spanish stucco house in Pasadena, CA. We would like to replace the old wood casement windows with dual pane wood windows that look the same as the old ones (minus the wear and tear of 80 years). Any suggestions on the best brand of windows? Any suggestions on how to find the best contractor?
Thanks

Not sure if they can help but you could try http://www.oldfashionedwindows.com. Perhaps they know someone in your area.
It depends on what your profiles are. I've been using Marvins and they are a excellent window. They are also bloody expensive. I've used the Pella's in the past and absolutly hated their panning details. We just did a large commercial job and used Traco windows on it. They are a commercial window, but that allows you a much larger selection of aluminum profiles.
check out this company and ask them to send you a catalog.

Their custom windows are the most beautiful pieces of work I have ever seen. they employ a number of hand crafted processes to yeild a uniqiue selection of window styles and finishes, many suited to a Spanish-style stucco home. Some of their windows actually look like they are 100 years old, yet incorporate all the modern convienences.
Can't comment on the prices as we are awaiting a quote right now. I suspect they will be $$$.
With so many historic homes in Pasadena.....maybe the best route would be to contact the historical society or one of the special interest groups there and chat them up.
Bet they have suggestions on brand as well as installers.
