I am replacing the Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaner that is attached to my air handler (I have forced air hear and a/c). In addition to the ozone risk (which I understand is not conclusive and is debatable), the cleaner simply does not work especially well and is a pain to clean. I have had it for 10 years. My heating technician recommend replacing it with Honeywell’s Media filter, which he said is a MERV 10. I would have preferred a higher MERV rating, but he said it might restrict the airflow too much. Isn’t there some fairly simple test to determine this? I realize that you can get MERV 16 filers – is MERV 10 considered good filtration (meaning would you install it on a new system)?
