We have wood steps leading into our house from the garage. There are two steps.
I’d like to replace them with brick, but not sure how.
Would I build the steps with masonry block on the garage floor, and then add the bricks with mortar? If so, are spacers used to ensure the bricks are spaced apart evenly?
If I am way off, or you have some advice, please let me know.
Thanks,
Gerry

Depends, a bit, on how many steps, how "pretty" they have to be, is there a landing, etc.
"Typical" brick and block "course" to an 8" dimension. If you try to replace two 7" tall wooden steps with two 8" block/brick steps, that stop step will be an "odd" size, which can be a definite trip hazard.
There's another "gotcha" with brick steps, they're 8"--a "typical" tread is in the 10-11" range. Which is not really a brick and a half. Which means there's a bunch of cutting and fitting. Does not mean it's impossible, only that there's possibly more "scope" to this work than appears at first.
If function is more important, some plain block with precast steps might be just the ticket, though.
