Is anyone aware of a system to retrofit double hung windows to achieve(in order of importance):
-energy savings
-lift assistance
-the ability to remove to clean(nice, but not as important)
My house is ca. 1910 and has these windows with no sash cords/counterweights, just a small lever to the right that you tug on when you want to hoist the boat anchor for fresh air. I am familiar with the bronze, spring loaded weatherstripping but was hoping to find something that would also facilitate opening for the kids in an emergency. I have considered replacement windows but am reluctant because of the style of these windows, cost and the impression that I wouldn’t achieve much gain in energy efficiency over tightening these up(I have storm windows). Thanks in advance.
