I am looking for recommendations for a roof mounted exhaust fan for an attic. The Broan product looks ok but I thought I would draw on the collective wisdom to see if anyone has a recommendation for a better manufacturer.
thanks in advance

The FHB Podcast crew takes a closer look at an interesting roof.

I would pursue some sort of passive venting -mushroom vents or ridge vent combined with soffitt venting - before using a power vent. After the cost of the unit plus the cost of operation is added, the gains are probably pretty neglagable. Also, the power vents tend to have a fairly short life and if they're quiet enough that you can't hear them from inside, it's not likely that you'll know when they've failed. It's rare for me to find one over 5-6 years old that's still operating.
Also, if you don't have proper inlet for them, they'll pull conditioned air out of the living space.
There's some instances where a power vent is the best solution, but in my experience those instances are few and far between.

But you all knew that. I detailed it extensively in my blog.
