Had an addition put on back of the house 1.5 years ago. When they roofed the addition with asphalt shingles, I had them roof the rest of the house at the same time. On the origonal part of the house they went over an old layer of shingles. I’ve noticed recently that about 2 – 3% of the shingles on the old part of the house have cupped slightly. The middle of the shingle is raised off the roof about 1/2″. Is this a problem? and if so, could it be caused by defective shinges, workmanship or the fact that the old roof wasn’t torn off? The roof has soffit and ridge vents, but I still get a lot of snow melting and forming ice damns in the winter.
Should I stick the offending shingles back down to the roof with some roofing cement?

probably nail pops...or high nails that never got nailed flush to begin with

If they are nail pops you can take a flat bar and hammer up on the roof, slide the flat bar under the shingle over the nail, hit the flat bar as close to the nail as possible to drive the nail back down. Might have to be something you add to your annual home maintenance process....

If the curling is in the middle of the new shingle, my guess is that the old shingles are curling underneath and lifting the new shingles.
It is often not a good idea to re-roof over old, except in certain situatiojns when the roofer can know what to do to overcome the difficulties. There are a multitude of problems that can crop up which is why most shingle manufacturers do not warrantee their product for overlays.
to know what is the source of the problem, I would need pictures to see.
