I am a builder in the Bahamas and until now all of our roofing projects have been on relatively shallow pitched roofs. Most of the homes here are single-story with 4-in-12 to 8-in12 roofs. On the steeper roofs, we have been comfortable with just safety harnesses and lines.
Our present project is a two-story house that sports a 12-in12 roof and this seemed to be a good time to pick up a dozen roofing brackets. But, as these things go in the islands, none of the local supplies stock them.
I would appreciate any suggestions for site-built alternatives.
Thank you,
Dennis.

They're only about $6.00 each. Can't you get them UPSed, or mail ordered there in the Islands? I can't imagine making some for that kind of dough.
Hi Jim,
The cost is not the problem, I placed an order for a case of adjustable brackets with Amazon/Tool Crib only to be informed that they do not export tools, then tried three other mail order houses with similar reaults. One company wanted $250.00 for "export documentation". I will continue to try the internet/mail order route, but I has just thinking that there must be a chewing-gum-and-bailing-wire type solution that someone has used sucessfully.

Lots of ways you can cobble brackets together, but nothing as safe, low profile and easy to use as the store bought ones...I was in Hopetown last year, and met a fellow building his own, very impressive house...when he got a long enough list of stuff he needed, he'd hop a plane to Home Depot in Miami! Do you know anyone in the states who can get your amazon order and send it on to you?
I'd bring 'em, but it wouldn't be 'till next year, damn it...
Good luck, BB
Dennis,
When I was poor we made them with a simple steel strap with 2x scewed on, or make them out of 2x and plywood. Article in FHB on shingling has pics. No. 146. I'll scan and send if you don't have it.

While I don't recommend it, Dad used 2X4s with baling wire tied to a nail for many years.
Could you have a welder make some for you? Wouldn't be too hard to figure out how to make one by trial and error. Then the shop shold be able to make as many as you want.
