I am building in Alabama and I am getting ready to buy a roofing coil nailer. Should I go with the Paslode cordless, or an air powered gun such as Senco?

Light and trouble free!I go all MAX for my framers though.
Check out the latest tools of the trade magazine. They favor the Bostich, Dewalt and Porter Cable, with the Bostich on top.

FWIW, I just took a detour through Home De Pot to check out coil nailers. They had four - the Hitachi, the Ridgid, the Bostitch and the Porter-Cable, with price from highest to lowest in that order. I picked 'em all up and swung them around, can't do much when they are empty and tethered to a cable on the wall, but the one that felt the best in hand was the Ridgid (!). Bostitch came in a close second, the P-C felt flimsy and heavy at the same time, and the Hitachi felt like it was already full of nails. It will be a tossup for me between the Ridgid and the Bostitch but I bet I can get the Bostitch online, cheaper than the Ridgid.
I've also picked up Senco nailers at another store for curiosity's sake, and thought they were pigs - heavy and unwieldy. I guess the durability makes up for it, huh?

Don't bet on it. Senco's quality has gone to pot in the past couple years.
Bostitch, Max, or Hitatchi..... pick one and be happy as you can possibly be while laying shingles. Mike Smith did good by you..... cordless roofing nailers are currently just toys. Maybe for a quickie repair but certainly not for laying squares.
Just about every roofing contractor around here uses either the Hitachi nv45ab or the Max guns which are rapidly gaining in popularity. I have used both the Hitachi and the Porter Cable and the Hitachi was far and away a better gun.
