Well I wanna ask about drills this time. I don’t have a hammer drill so when a chance comes around to get one for around 50% off then I take notice. Here’s what deals I have:
1. Dewalt #D25113k – 1″ SDS 3 mode Rotary Hammer – $299.
2. Dewalt #D25211k – 1″ SDS, D-handle single Mode Rotary Hammer – $299.
3. Dewalt #D25203K – 1″ SDS Hammer Drill – $245.
4. Dewalt #D25304K – 1″ SDS Hammer Drill – $357.
5. Makita #HP2070F – 3/4″, Variable Speed Hammer Drill – $112.
As well I can get some bigger Dewalt models but they are way too big for any work i’m gonna do. Those deals are one of those year-end clearance sales I found online up here in Canada.
So tell me what opinion(s) you have on any of these drills. Have you used any of them and what did you think of them in terms of reliability? Have you heard any reviews or negative comments on them? How about the prices?
Thanks agaian
Paul

Saturday's Craigslist: Hilti TE-10 with accessories, $50. I guess you can wear them out, but I haven't been able to.
PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Unfortunately you can wear them out. I used a Hilti to drill granite river rocks with. 3/4s of the way through the job it stopped hammering. I had Hilti fix it.
I really liked the bits for the Hilti. They said Liechtenstein on them. The stamping was perfect and it went practically all the way around the bit. But they got it on there.
I like it when a company puts their name on their tool and stamping steel if pretty permanent.
I have the Bosch bulldog. It has three modes. The chisel/hammer does come in handy. I like having the variable speed too. Sometimes with the chisel or the drill it is hard to get the tip right where you want it. It keeps slipping off target. So I put the tip on it and give it just a little juice at first. It does help.
Lets say you need a hole that is four inches in dia through some concrete. You can drill a series of holes around the parameter. Then take the chisel and knock out the areas in between the holes. You can clean up the edge of the hole also. It would be harder to do that with drill mode only.
I agree with what you are saying about drilling and chipping. I have an old Red Head which I think was before Hilti and it cost me something like $500.00 used many years ago! I used to drill with a core bit 2 1/2 inches through concrete walls and sometimes hit re bar. I would change it to hammer and with hammer bits I would chip away inside until I could get my sawzall in an cut the bars then continue with the core bit.
The problem with it being an older model is that it takes splined shafts but Hilti makes an adapter to be able to take the small shaft SDS bits.
It isn't a big drill but it sure is great when I need it and I've used it a lot. Chipping is a much needed feature.

Dunno about those Dewalts, but I have a Bosch 11236VSR, which is listed as a 1-1/8" roto hammer and ran me about $300 a few years ago. The largest bit I own is a long 3/4" and it's woefully underpowered for that. It's great for drilling smaller holes for split anchors and the like, and it's pleasantly light, but next time I need a real rotohammer I'm going to go buy the really big Hilti for about $800.
I was given a DeWalt D-handle, SDS+, three mode rotary hammer. It has been good so far. I have done lots of fastener holes (1/4" - 3/8") and some 3/4" deep holes through brick faced cinderblock. It has done okay. When it dies (it is a DeWalt) I'll replace it with a Hilti. My Hilti stuff is very well made and lasts a long time. I would consider a Bosch too.
Lee you seem to be convinced that beacuse it's a Dewalt it's gonna die. May I ask why?
paul
I have a lot of drills, one (Thor) dating back to the '40's. The only one that has died for me was a corded DeWalt. My Milwaukees have been great. I have a 40 year old Craftsman that sees constant use as my shop drill. I do not abuse the tools and I expect them to last. I just do not have any faith in DeWalt. Your results may vary...
Get a Bosch.

Joe may I ask why you chose Bosch?
Paul
I have an old Bulldog, it just keeps on going.
The few Dewalt tools I do have I have been less than impressed with.
Personal opinion, others will disagree.

no they won't..
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->
WOW!!! What a Ride!Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Paul,
I think I've tested all of them and far and away the fastest drilling was the Hilti..
