Ryobi introduced some tools with 18v Lith-Ion batteries a few weeks ago, they are green – so what.
What caught my interest was their statement that the new 18v LI batteries will fit their entire line of 18v cordless tools.
I am a fan of their impact drivers and drills.
This morning I saw the local HD staff unpacking a shipment of 18v LI batteries packaged as one battery and a charger – no price in evidence and I did not stop to ask.
So, if you already have Ryobis and your batteries are getting tired – you might think about waiting a little while longer before replacing them. Then you can post and let us know how they perform.
I have 4 NiCad 18v Ryobi batteries and all are doing fine!

in my home depot the battery and charger is $99
Good thing I don't need new batteries.
Hopefully, that price will drop after the "new-wears-off".
Sounds a bit steep when you consider I only paid $95 for 18v impact driver, drill, 2 NiCad batteries, charger and a carry bag.
Somebody here will buy them and let us know if they are worth it.

We'll, $99 for just one battery and charger is a little steep... so I spent $159 for the drill/flashlight/2 battery combo kit.
I haven't used them yet, I just charged it up yesterday... probably won't get to it until sunday. That should be a great test for them!

Let us know how the new Ryobi batteries work out. I recently bought a few Ryobi tools. One of the big reasons I chose Ryobi is because of the cost of nicad batteries. I can get an 18V Ryobi battery for about $20.
However... if the batteries weren't so cheap, I would be very disappointed. The drill provides comparable power and longevity to my 14.4V drill. For an 18V battery, I expected more power or more life. I get neither. The circular saw runs the battery down in a serious hurry.
It's not a big deal. Since the batteries were so cheap, I bought 4 of them. Even if it takes an hour to recharge, I won't have any downtime during a typical work day. But when it comes time to replace the batteries, I hope to have some feedback on the lithium ion version.
