So I am building a couple decks and some stairs from pressure treated and redwood.The client does not want paint but it is a rental and perhaps some protection is in order.Do those sealers like thompsons do any good?Your thoughts,as always,are appreciated. thanks,dan

This has been discussed recently and I don't think there were any Thompson's fans. Consumer Reports did a recent article on deck treatments that I didn't find very illuminating. I'm currently trying "Superdeck" on some nice clear redwood; it looks great so far... The general rule seems to be that you get what you pay for.

Dan, I've done quite a few decks in the past few years using Wolman's products and am pleased. I prefer the water based (less hazard to me), but you do need to reapply every 2 yrs at best. Good recurring work if you don't mind using a power washer. Wolman's Raincoat is what I've used.
