Since childhood I have dreamed of building a house with trap doors and secret entrances. I am getting to do it now! I have done some research on the internet to try to stimulate ideas for contruction of a secret entrance/trap door but have come up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to search or pictures that I could look at?

Try searching the archives here. It's been discused before, but it's been a while.
I don't think you'll find a great deal of stuff, as ther are no real "standards" for this type of construction.
If you do anything kinky, make sure you check it out with local codes first.

Thanks for the reply. My house is going up outside the city limits so I do not have to build according to code, however, everything we have done so far has met or exceeded code regulations. I am trying to build two trap doors, one for a closet and one as an entrance to the basement. I am not sure what code reg.s would be for the basement door but the closet would be well within code regulations. If you hear or see any info. that would help please send it my way. We took out the old floor heater in the hall and made a trap door down to the crawl space, hidden under a rug. Right by the bathroom, makes it easy to get to the pipes.

Excellent planning -- out of the crawl space, and straight into the shower without messing up anything else in the house. ;-)

This isnt going to be to much help to you because I dont remember the name of the book but..
I was in a Barnes and Noble and saw a book something to effect of secret passages in homes or something like that anyway, it was a picture book of ways to conceal doorways and such.
I've seen a book advertised called 'how to hide anything' that may cover some of this. Saw some pictures in a book on old mansions once, but forget where. Most seemed to hide doors in a wall full of woodwork panels.
Billy, I mentioned this book to Ed from Dallas, but we couldn't find it. You got a lead on "How to Hide Almost Anything", sounds like the one you mentioned.

I have a lot of pictures of hidden entrances /seret passages.
but I can't find them.
George Lucas' ranch/ complex (Skywalker, or something like that) is full of hidden doors and panels. I beleive it is pretty well documented - kind defeats the purpose. Do a Google search on that. I have seen something showing details. He is pretty proud of it.
Hey, didn't FHB do an article on the woodwork there a few years ago? Someone did.
You will find a design idea for a "secret door" in the book "Built-In Furniture" by Jim Tolpin Taunton Press. It's a revolving bookcase secret door. Check out books and videos on this website; I got my copy from Barns and Noble. Go to http://www.bn.com
Larry,
Thanks for the reply. I have purchased the book and it is on its way!

If I told, it would not be secret anymore, would it?
