yesterday I was out in the barn and found my little torch…..I wasn’t looking for it, but that’s another story. Anyway, it has one of those heads that has the button and piezo igniter….a Sure Fire© something or other. I can tell there is little or no gas in the yellow bottle so I detach that to give it a toss, and for some reason I decide to squeeze the trigger on the head and OMG there is still gas inside the handle which promptly ignites and scares the puppy-water outta me…WTF …it ran for about 10 seconds before I just put the damn thing back on the bottle !!! I had no idea those type of head stored fuel

My trigger torch stores enough MAPP gas for one good burst when removed from the tank. You could light a smoke with it if you were good.
Did I tell you about my buddy driving down the road with his torch in a bucket in the back of his truck... the trigger leaned against the side of the bucket and started a fire, which he noticed in his rear view mirror.
I wonder if the cold allowed more gas to build up in mine cuz it never went out, and your buddys mishap is the sort of thing that I'm thinking about now. the head acted like it was still on the bottle.

No on/off switch? Mine's got one. Not that it's all that secure.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
on/off switch who uses that ? :)I suppose that would prevent from clicking, but I pulled the trigger... I was stupified by the amount of gas..(in the handle).

I have two identical units, and one has a broken (from being knocked over) on-off switch. After a couple of near-accidents having the broken one in a bucket with other tools, that one is relegated to a secure place (by itself) in the basement. I can't bring myself to throw it out because it works fine otherwise.

I no longer leave the head stored on the bottle.
When done, pull it off, snap the trigger and drop it in the bag with the bottle.

i have 3 of these torches and i'd never go back to the old stlye, but that said one time i grab it and someother stuff in my arms and something hit the switch and it lit and burned about a 3" spot on my forearm before i could get it dropped. another time i'm driving down the road when i get to smelling propane? something had fell against the trigger but it had not lit, thank goodness.
guess i should learn to turn it off huh? larry
4th of july is a special time for a propane torch,it's when you can really impress the 10 year olds and they want to grow up to be just like you.....
