I have had the septic tank pumped out. Now I have water coming up from the tank and running through the yard even with nothing running in the house. I have been told the water is coming from the drain field and I need to add more line. Any thoughts? The weather has been wet and the soil is red clay.

Was your system failing before it was pumped?
Had some gurgling in the house is reason for pumping. I expect it had failed prior.
Well, your system has failed, probably due to failure to pump in a timely fashion. Pony up the big bucks ($5-20K, depending) for a new leach field (if the county will even let you install a new one).
What do they expect you to do if they won't let you install a new one?
Just hold it, I guess.

Seems kinda premature to me to condemn his system based on 3 lines of text on a message board.

Yeah, there's a vague possibility that the line from septic to leach field has collapsed or some such. But I wouldn't hold my breath. (Well, maybe I would, around that tank.)In any event, it backhoe time.
I think what DanH is saying is that since the tank wasn't pumped out in timely fashion, it backed up and instead of 'clean' fluids flowing out to the drain lines, it had solid waste (gunk) flowed out to the drain field and may have clogged the lines.
If the drain lines are clogged, that would mean they would need to be dug up and redone.
I think I would have a septic guy come out and take a look at it. Hopefully you won't have to put in a new drain field, but there is only so much he will be able to determine short of digging up the old field.
