I’ve posted a couple times without much response re: the deck design of a front porch but now I am to the design of the roof structure so I hope some of you pro framers will help. I have two initial questions.
1) My design will call for a total deck width of 32′ with ganged posts at the ends and at about 5′ inside of that on either end. This will leave approx. a 20′ span across the middle. What would be the best approach to building or sizing the beam that would carry the ceiling joist and rafterrs?
pitch will be about 3/12
2)I have to step the deck about 1′ inside the outer dimensions of the house. I want to have a continuous roof line from the house down to the new porch roof. This will necessitate about a 3′ soffit on either side of the porch. What would be the best way to design this for the framers? I assume I would begin by extending above mentioned roof beam to the outer edges but I’m not sure how to design beyond that.
Thanks for nay help you may provide.

You could do that or you could stop the beam 2' back from edge and use lookouts in the framing to do the extend soffit overhang lioke on a gable ned of a house. Part of this depends on what you want it to look like , and there are ways of detailing thgis possible on some oplaces that would make it possible to hide your beam alltogether. Lot of variables.
