A while back, some people here were talking about framing with 2×6’s on 24″ centers (as opposed to 16″ o.c.).
My question is, are 24″ centers adequate for hanging rock on ceilings? If so, what thickness/grade rock would be suitable?
Thanks in advance for any help.

24" centers are common for trusses. I've seen pleanty hung with standard 1/2 but it will develop waves over time. I hang 5/8" or strap it down to 16" oc. or both
5/8ths is required most areas (villages, municipaliteies, and counties)to protect the trusses in the ceiling. good thing too , if you use just 1/2" on anything 24"o.c. it will be wavy.
GEOB21,
What do you mean by "strap it down to 16" o.c."? Do you just mean adding extra ceiling joists, or something different?
Ragnar
running striping nailed to the joist at 90° to the joist. on 16" centers.
as smart fred said.
Thanks for the help, everyone.

They make 1/2" sheetrock called sagless just for ceilings on 24"@trusses
