Before anyone ridicules this, let me list the facts. I’m building my own house. I may or may not side it within 4-6 months. Tyvek says to side within 90 days to protect from ultra violet rays. I would use tar paper, but its brittle and will not withstand wind or exposure without ripping over 4-6 months. Say I use shinglemate over side walls, fir out with 2 inch strips of 1/2 inch material, 16 on center around entire exterior. This both holds down material securely and provides breathing room for cedar siding once installed. Is this total overkill or a decent solution.

I used Shinglemate on a roof thinking it would hold up better than regular tar paper. It did fine for a couple of months and then began to shrink badly.
Most undershingle membranes break down from UV and have a limited exposed life. I think everyting you need to know is on the box the rolls come in.
