Check out “clearance” pricing on this item at amazon.com
$550! Not a Williams & Hussey, but adequate and affordable. Can’t say the same for moulding knives pricing however, anyone know of sources besides Grizzly, Schmidt and W&H?

The Ironic thing is that I ordered that from Grizzley when they first came out and paid the list price, however the catalog was premature and they still hadn't built any.. I waited over 9 months and finally canceled the order..
I've had the W&H for years and I'm yet to find anyone that makes knives at a price I'm happy with.
For about another grand you can buy a machine to make your own knives...

I suppose to make it worth my while to buy a knife grinder I'd have to go into business grinding custom knives for others, which would necessitate hiring someone to do that while I do what I do. As I don't have room for that in the shop I'd have to put up a building for that, which one guy grinding knives wouldn't generate enough cash flow to pay for, so I'd have to buy several machines and hire a number of workers... I guess I'll just pay the price and buy the knives.
You can get a grinder for about $800. I've seen em' around on occasion used. It's worth it if you do tons of custom trim work.
The knives are a fortune. $100 here $150 there....."Revolution is not something fixed in ideology, nor is it something fashioned to a particular decade. It is a perpetual process embedded in the human spirit". abbie

then you'd make too much money and obama would take it... so why bother

I had the same problem with expensive knifes. After many calls I came across WDR. It was about 2 years since I had knives made, but they were $14/inch (minimum size 1.845 and sold in 1 inch increments from there).http://www.wdr-sales.com/cat.htmJust checked, price is now $16/inch, still a great deal. He charges another $15 if you need a template, but can skip that if you provide a DXF file or already have a template.
Thanks - that is about a third of the price for W&H knives direct.

Ive een buying from him for years. He used to make cutters for woodmaster. I'm not sure if thats still true
I talked to him about 2 years ago when he cut by template and with wire EDM. He was just setting up a waterjet cutter which allowed for very precise (and fast) template cutting.Real friendly guy and knifes were top quality.
