The rough in plumbing is with a drain that will require the installation of a mortar bed, the membrane, another mortar bed and then the tile. The curb will also need to be mortared over, over the membrane.
Homeowner wants a bench in the shower. I assume the bench should be treated just like the floor but how to seal it? Do I mortar over the edge and down to the floor, like the curb?
The Schulter products are not available here, even in HD.
I have never done this before.

Kerdi. You can get it online.
Benches have always been a PITA, untill kerdi came out.
Do a Google for "Better Bench". Makes it simple.

I agree on the Better Bench suggestion.
Try http://www.innoviscorp.com/better-bench.php
I have used them on quite a few jobs and find they are very easy to use with minimum penetration through backing materials.
