I’m rehabing an old bathroom in my house and taking out the old tub and putting in a ready tile shower pan. I remember reading or seeing something that the shower drain has to be increased in size but can’t remember where I saw it or how big it should be. Any help would be great. I am going to have a plumber do most of this but I talked to a couple of plumbers already and only one said that was code the others kinda ignored my comment then suddenly told me they couldn’t help me. Seems like it would be a headache but I want to do the right thing and NOT cut corners.
Thanks for any replies. This happens to be my first post here.
Cheers,
Marc

Horse pucky. Same size, put in a trap and vent it within four feet or so. Vent for the tub should be in place already anyway. Vent's not a big deal with a shower pan.
Thanks!!
Welcome! I'm curious, what's behind your screen name?
I've been a firefighter/paramedic for 15 years. I also am a skydiver and have worked on air ambulances...so kinda thats how it came together.
Well, no one can say that you're not prepared for anything!
Tubs are normally 1½" waste, Shower pans are normally 2" .
If your under the UPC then your shower needs a 2" trap & drain line, & a tub needs a 1.5" trap, but the drain is still 2".
Generally most swaps of this kind ( tub to shower) are a simple task of relocating the trap & replacing a 1.5" trap & trap arm with a 2" set up.
you need a 2" drain and trap
Thanks for the responses guys!! helps out a ton. After talking to a new plumber today we are set to get this thing started.
