Anyone know if a dado head can be used on a sliding compound miter saw? Seems like a useful feature for cabinet work and an advantage for sliding vs regular miter – esp with the depth stop provided on most SCMS’s. I am considering purchase of the 12″ DeWalt -it has a blade guard that looks like it would interfere with installation of a dado. Have not been able to find an answer to this simple question…help appreciated.

My Dewalt has a 1" arbor, the std. dado is 5/8 bore.
Not to mention all the possible safety concerns

*I use a router with a twist straight bit for cabinet dados and rabbets. - jb
*Could try a wide kerf blade and just keep advancing your cut for occasional dado type work, then you don't have to change your blade. Just for fairly rough stuff. As stated above, safety biggest factor here.Do
*Rob, it's probably not a good idea to use a dado set on a chop saw, because they have arbor screws versus a table saw's arbor nut. Simply--the chop saw is not designed for it. However I have had excellent results using the depth stop to make several kerfs in series. Most good sliding saws have this feature. If you want to dado , why not use a table saw?
*Previous reply about 1" arbor is correct for the 12" DW708. My Craftsman wobble dado has 3/4" bore (I think)plus a bushing for 5/8", which I use on my radial arm saw. I'm not sure anyone offers a 1" bore dado set (haven't looked for one either). Suggest you contact DeWalt customer service on their website (dewalt.com I think). I used it before and they answered within a day or two. Let us know what you find out. I've cut simple dados with the 708 by setting the depth stop and making multiple passes as suggested in another reply. Good luck.
*Just finished a trim job where the 12in Makita was on site.It was marked NOT for use with a dado blade.Book said as earilier posted...make a series of cuts and move the board.
