Hi
I have a project with limited side access >5 feet wide and no rear access and am considering having a small tower crane to deliver materials to the rear and to erect the house. House is being built of masonry walls, truss joists and three floors inclusive of roofspace. 4000 sq ft. Does anybody have any experience of what sort of crane to use and whether it would be more economical than occasional mobile crane rental?

Dan,
I don't know about cost in the U.S. When I was in Europe, it seemed like these little cranes were always used on almost any construction project. Some neighborhoods would have four or five visible from one spot. Sure looked handy, the boom would typically cover the entire lot, enabling the delivery of material to any spot on the lot.

Thanks for the comment. I'm considering a Caterpillar forklift as an alternative.

Some cherry pickers (Simone's from where I come from) can be used as a crane.
best of both worlds. Man lift and crane.
